Connect an agent

App Store setup · Choose one path · Keep secrets out of chat

Startr turns meaningful moments from approved agents into Lock Screen and Dynamic Island cards. Habits stay on your device. Pairing does not give agents habit, Health, or location history.

Before you pair

  1. Download Startr from the App Store. Available in the United States at launch.
  2. Open Settings → Agent Cards.
  3. Optional: tap See a sample card, then lock the phone. No pairing or network required for the sample.
  4. Tap Connect an agent. Startr creates a private device connection and anonymous setup identity. No name, email, or password.

Path A — Short invitation (chat-safe)

Use this only when your agent app has a trusted Startr setup helper that can request access from chat.

  1. Tap Create setup invitation → Copy invitation for chat.
  2. Paste it into that supported agent chat — not a generic browser chat.
  3. When a request appears on the phone, compare the confirmation codes on both sides. Names are self-chosen; codes are the proof.
  4. Tap Codes match — allow only if they match. Reject anything you did not start.

The invitation expires in about five minutes and contains no reusable key. Reading a link in a normal chat does not install tools by itself.

Path B — Persistent connector (compatible MCP apps)

Use this for lasting access in an app that supports a custom MCP server with an Authorization request header. This header-based path has been tested in Codex desktop. Compatibility depends on the specific app and connector settings, not just the agent's name.

If your app only offers OAuth or client-ID/client-secret fields, this path is not supported there yet. Do not paste the private header into those fields or into chat. Expanded Claude/Grok OAuth setup is not part of this launch; contact support if your app has no custom-header option.

  1. Under Persistent agent connector, enter a name for this agent.
  2. Tap Approve and prepare connector → Approve connector.
  3. In the agent app’s connector settings:
    • Server URL → paste Copy server URL
    • Request header nameAuthorization
    • Header value → paste the complete Copy private Authorization header value
  4. Save, enable the connector for the session, and verify that Startr tools appear.

Never paste the private Authorization header into chat, email, Slack, or a screenshot. Keep it only in connector settings. Phone approval alone does not turn on tools in another app.
